Wilford Charles "Charlie" West

June 24, 1926 — August 2, 2019

Wilford Charles “Charlie” West, age 93 of Williamsport, IN died at 5:02 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. 

 

Charlie was born in Oakland, CA on June 24, 1926.  He was the son of Shirley and Ida May (Norriss) West.   He married Betty Jane (Martin) Alberich in Reno, NV on March 8, 1984. She survives.  He has resided in Williamsport, IN since 2004.

 

Charlie served in the US Army Calvary during World War II.  He was a postal carrier for the US Post office.  Charlie was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church.  He loved meeting and being around people and would get their address and send them cards, sending over 200 Christmas cards a year. He was a runner, participating in the Senior Olympics, receiving several medals.  He loved bowling, golf, and line dancing.

Stepchildren, Jane Colson (Ron) of Hillsboro, IN, Peggy Kenworthy of Williamsport, IN, Joe Alberich (Joyce) of Catlin, IL, Mike Alberich (Brenda) of Washington, and Ray Alberich (Dorinda) of Portland, OR

Sister, Beverly DelSolado of California

Nephew, Norman Hendricks (Evelyn) of California and several other nieces and nephews

6 grandchildren, Lance Colson (Lisa), Jason Alberich (Julie), Franki Swanson (Doug), Laura Steuerwald (Kevin), Jarod Alberich (Johanna), Daniella Bissett, Darren Kenworthy (Karrie), Jamie Reed, and Joe Alberich

18 great-grandchildren

1 great-great-grandson, Isaac Charles Swanson

 

Charlie was preceded in death by 2 brothers, George West and June West, sister, Mae Duncan.

 

A memorial service will be held at VA National Cemetery in Danville, IL on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Community Foundation.
