Richard Wayne Hay, kindly known as “Dick”, of Marshfield, Indiana, passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 30th, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born on March 3,1937, in Perrysville, Indiana, Dick grew up in a kindhearted family with five audacious brothers. He loved telling stories to his grandchildren about the wild adventures of “Ike, Mike, and Jo", pseudonyms for himself and his brothers. Dick will be greatly missed by his youngest, surviving brother, Charles Hay of rural Vermilion County, Indiana.
Dick met the love of his life, Mary Kochel in 1954. They courted for one year and married on July 2nd, 1955, at the preacher’s house in West Lebanon, Indiana. They were approaching 70 years of marriage. Dick and Mary chose to live in Marshfield all of their married life. They enjoyed dancing, traveling, and spending time cruising to car shows with friends.
Dick was a welder and the youngest foreman at Harrison Steel Casting Company in Attica, Indiana, in the 60s. However, his love of cars was his true passion. He raced late models in Boswell and Danville and established Dick’s Body Shop in his home garage in 1968. He moved his business to downtown Marshfield in 1979, where he honed his skills as a Corvette Specialist. He “never worked a day in his life” after that but enjoyed his craft until the age of 86.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Audra and Dorothy Hay and his brothers: Gene, James, Robert, and Curtis. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his son, Ronald Hay, his two daughters: Rhonda (Bo) Humphreys and Bobbi (Bruce) Billman. He has six grandchildren and a horde of great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at the same location at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 7th. A private committal service will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Dick Hay Memorial Scholarship fund at the Warren County Community Foundation to help support a Wabash River Career & Technical Education student who plans to pursue a career in the automotive field.
