Raymond Cecil James

Raymond Cecil James, age 78 of Rainsville, IN sadly passed away at home on May 11, 2024 surrounded with his family by his side. Raymond was born at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, IN on January 10, 1946. He was the son of Morris “Doc” and Madeline (Rowland) James. Raymond married the love of his life, Terrie Wolfe, on June 25, 1966 at Galloway Chapel.

Still surviving are his wife Terrie, his children Tina Gerard, Jason James, and Brian James (wife: Jennifer), ex son-in-law Randy Gerard who Raymond thought of as a son, grandchildren Ashley Gerard, Skyann (Thomas) Spear, Cortney (Jason) Byrns, Preston (Erin) James, and Brittany Gerard and great-grandchildren Joshalynn Spear, Hunter Cadle, Alena Witt, Alyson Witt, Bayne Spear, Adalyn Byrns, Morgan James, Raylee Spear, Aleah James, and Damion Franklin, and 2 step great-grandkids, Cadance Byrns and Carter Byrns. Also surviving are his brother Wayne (Martha) James and sister Linda (Dave) Simmons.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene James and Virgil James; and sisters Betty Krichbaum, Carol Sue Dubois, Sharon Foster, and Debbie Cooksey.

Raymond was an extremely hard worker at everything he did. Due to extreme wear and tear on his body he was able to be retired for at least 30 years. He always said he was truly blessed beyond measure and family is everything. He really enjoyed spending every moment with his family. He loved gardening, taking care of the yard, watching and feeding the birds, and sitting on the front porch of what he called “cabin in the wood” which was his little sanctuary.

Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Service will be there on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with cousin Steve Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Rainsville Cemetery.
