Nisha Colleen Swank, 56 of Crawfordsville, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born on May 21st, 1969 in Lafayette, Indiana and was the youngest of 5 children to Bobby O. and Luella Beardsley (Gee). She grew up in Benton County and graduated from Benton Central High School in 1988. Over the next few years, Nisha enjoyed her early 20’s, having fun and celebrating life while working several different jobs including at Fleetwood Travel Trailers as a cabinet maker, where she met the love of her life, Michael Swank and the couple married on August 17th, 1996 after a year of dating.
Nisha and Michael raised a loving family, and in 2008 was hired by the Montgomery County Indiana Sheriff’s Department as a correctional officer. Nisha was known by those she worked with and who she worked for as a fair and compassionate officer, earning the nickname of “Mama Swank”. She definitely made a positive impact on many lives and is remembered with honor, respect and love by those she served.
Nisha’s greatest joy was her family. She loved being a mother and grandmother. She was the matriarch of both sides of her family and was the linchpin in all times. She enjoyed gardening, particularly flowers while showing a ‘green thumb’ in her yearly crops. She was most definitely a “foodie” who not only enjoyed sampling items but was a chef in her own right, particularly her beef Manhattan and spaghetti dishes. Nisha loved camping out at Lake Holiday-Hideaway in Kingman, Indiana. She was never seen without a lovely smile, and once she got to know you, you were her friend. She will be missed terribly by those who love her, family, friends, community, and comrades in arms.
Nisha is survived by husband Michael Swank, daughters Ashley James, Amanda (William) Beebe, Haley (Adrian McAllister) Swank, and son Logan (Ana) Swank; grandchildren Emery and Mayleigh James and Liam and Micah Beebe, and brothers Bobby (Sheri) Beardsley, Stuart (Brenda) Beardsley and Dyrl (Stephanie) Beardsley and brother in law Bob Baldwin. She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents, and sister Karen Baldwin.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 6th from 4 to 8 PM at Grady Funeral Home, 111 E. Monroe St in Williamsport, followed by an hour of visitation at 10AM on Tuesday, April 7th with funeral service at 11AM . Burial will be at the West Lebanon Cemetery.
