Maggio Blessent

Maggio Blessent, age 88 of Danville, IL, went to be with the Lord at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 surrounded by his loving wife and sister-in-law. Maggio was born on March 12, 1932 in Stonington, IL. He was the son of Peter and Pauline (Chiolerio) Blessent. Maggio attended Stonington schools. He lived in Taylorville, IL and Veedersburg, IN before moving to Danville, IL where he has resided since 1991. Maggio married (Sheila) Rene Malan on September 30, 1978 in Danville, IL and she survives. Maggio served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He worked at General Motors Central Foundry in Tilton, IL until his retirement in 1988. Maggio was a member of the GM Retirees Group and Illiana Genealogy Society. He was a devoted member of the Cornerstone Church in Danville previously First Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. Maggio enjoyed woodworking. Surviving with his wife, Rene, are, 1 son, Bart M. (Kim) Blessent of South Charleston, WV; 1 daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Winslow of Ravenden Springs, AR; 1 brother, Tommy (Lillian) Blessent of Taylorville, IL; 1 sister, Judy (Howard) Moma of Taylorville, IL; 9 grandchildren, Melissa (Craig) Panneton, Jessica (Byron) Denhart, Rayna Jeske (Adam Douglass), Debi Jeske, Stephanie (Andy) Gombos, Freyia (Ben) Holbrook, Anthony (Amber) Blessent, Michael Blessent, and Peter Blessent; 10 great-grandchildren Maggio was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca “Jeannie” Van Gorden, brothers, Mijo Blessent, Martin Blessent, Jim Blessent, and Joseph Blessent; and sister, Mary Ladd. The family would like to thank Michael Wagner, N.P. for his years of care for Maggio. Friends will be received on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Cornerstone Church, 1607 Greenwood Cemetery Rd, Danville, IL 61832 from 10:00 a.m. CST until memorial service time at 11:00 a.m. CST with Pastor Kevin Cox officiating. Inurnment will be at the Danville National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Church.
