Kyoko "Kay" (Okazaki) Chapell

March 2, 1927 — December 10, 2020

Kyoko “Kay” (Okazaki) Chapell, age 93 of Attica, IN passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Williamsport Nursing and Rehab.

 

Kay was born on March 2, 1927 in Fukuoka City, Japan. She was the daughter of Masayuki and Cizuko (Nakano) Okazaki. She was a 1943 high school graduate in Japan. Kay married Charles W. Chapell at the American Embassy in Kansai, Japan on August 10, 1955. In 1955, they moved to the Air Force Base in South Dakota until 1960 when they moved to the Yakota Air Force Base in Japan. In 1965, Charles was honorably discharged and they moved to Attica, where they resided since. He preceded her in death April 5, 1988.

 

Kay was a cook at the Sportsman Bar and Grill for a year before being hired at Lafayette Essex Wire Company where she worked for ten years. Kay then worked for Pinkerton Security Company at C& D Technologies in Attica, IN for a year. She later worked as an aide at Cross Point Human Services in Danville, IL for two years before retiring.

 

Kay was a member of the Attica–Williamsport Evangelical Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, canvas painting, and cooking.

 

Kay is survived by many loving friends, including special friends Brenda Gates and Jo Ann Koekenburg. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 

Visitation will be at the Attica-Williamsport Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 300 E Main St, Attica, IN 47918 on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Carafa officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Attica.
