John Eugene "Big John" Price, 71, of Danville, passed away on July 15, 2026, in Bloomington, Illinois. Born on January 11, 1955, in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Jack Price and Margurite Bainbridge Price. His early years in Danville laid the foundation for a life full of generosity, warmth, devotion to family, and service to others.
On August 17, 1974, John was united in marriage to Debbie, his beloved life partner. Together, they built a devoted family, raising their son Justin. John especially cherished his role as “Pawpaw” to his grandson, John Price, finding endless joy in spending time and making memories with his family.
John’s service to his country was a source of great pride. He served honorably in the United States Air Force as a fuel specialist, stationed at Holloman Air Force Base. His dedication took him briefly to Germany during his active duty. Some of his fondest memories from this time included tubing in the winter hills at Holloman Air Base.
A kind and giving soul, John’s commitment to helping others also extended into his civilian roles. For several years, he worked as a driver, building friendships and a sense of community wherever he went. His genuine nature shined especially brightly during his time as a volunteer EMT for Tilton, Illinois, where he was able to provide care and comfort to those in need.
Those who knew John will remember his fun-loving spirit and his gift for humor. Whether found at a flea market, an auction, or simply sitting on his deck with a cold diet Mountain Dew, John was quick with a joke, always eager to bring laughter and lightness to any gathering. He delighted in talking with his neighbors, sharing stories, and making everyone feel like part of his extended family. His love of travel, including trips to Las Vegas with his family, created lasting memories and stories to treasure.
John is survived by his wife Debbie Price of Danville, his son, Justin Price also of Danville, his grandson John Price, his extended loving family including his sister in laws, Diana (Kenny) Kaelin, Dana (Brian) Sanders, and Doris (Archie) Williams, along with several loved nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Sharon Schroeder
John’s final act of kindness was as an organ donor, a legacy of generosity that will help approximately 70 people—an extraordinary testament to his commitment to others, even in passing.
A celebration of "Big John’s" life will be held at the Danville Civic Center on Sunday, July 19, 2026, between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Burial with military honors will take place at the Danville National Cemetery at a later date.
