Hazel L. "Peanut" (Baumgardner) Hembree

Hazel L. “Peanut” (Baumgardner) Hembree, age 76 of Williamsport, IN, passed away at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loving family on 3:27 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Hazel was born on June 2, 1944 in Evarts, KY. She was the daughter of Elmer Jessie and Dollie (Sergent) Baumgardner. Hazel was a graduate of Evarts High School where she was involved in cheerleading. Hazel was raised in Kentucky and moved to Tab in 1961. She married Felix Edwards Hembree Jr. October 7, 1961 in Sneedville, TN and he preceded her in death August 1, 2011. She had resided with her daughter in Williamsport since 2011. Hazel worked at Schumacher Electric as a floor supervisor in Hoopeston, IL for several years before retiring in 1999. She later worked at Oxford House in Fowler, IN. Hazel was a member of the Antwerp Baptist Church in Antwerp, OH. She was the daughter of a fallen police officer and member of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.). Hazel enjoyed meeting and visiting with other survivors through Cops Cycling for Survivors. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Hazel had a very special bond with her sister Frances. Surviving are, 4 children, Kevin E. Hembree, Shawn Hembree (Laurie), Jessica Yates (Scott), and Tonya Hembree; 1 sister, Frances S. Mendoza; 8 grandchildren, Keegan Rudolph (Audri), Kodi Rudolph, Kade Rudolph, Makaila Hembree, Mackenzie Yates, Britt Hembree, Blake Hembree, and Chelsea Hembree; 1 great-grandchild on the way Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Felix; and siblings, Carl M. Baumgardner, Elizabeth H. Creech, Venetta D. Abner, Margaret A. Middleton, Ronnie J. Baumgardner, and Elmer R. Baumgardner. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be there on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Rod Andrews officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cops Cycling for Survivors, PO Box 597, Elletsville, IN 47429.
