Frederick "Fred" Saul Auter

Frederick Saul “Fred” Auter, age 84 of Covington, IN, passed away at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. Fred was born on August 14, 1938 in Covington, IN. He was the son of Carl and Velma M. (Grady) Auter. He was a 1956 graduate of Covington High School where he enjoyed playing in the band. Fred married Carlotta J. Blair on August 17, 1958 at the Covington Christian Church. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2023. Fred served in the Army National Guard. After graduation, he worked at Interstate Sand & Gravel in Covington. He later worked at Crain Plumbing and Heating where he became known by most people in the community. Fred was a member of the Portland Arch Christian Church. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Covington and loved playing the saxophone. Surviving are: Son, Tim Auter (wife: Marla) of Covington, IN; Daughter, Martella Pickering (husband: Chuck) of Westville, IL; 3 grandchildren, Chase Pickering (Joanna), Shawna High (Kory), Sarah Pickering (Josh); 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild Fred was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carlotta. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington, IN on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. EDT with son Tim Auter officiating.
