In Loving Memory of Delois Lee Jean Shelton

Our beloved Delois Lee Shelton passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026 at 2:01 p.m., at the age of 89. Her passing leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love that will remain with her family for generations to come. 

Born August 14, 1937, in Walker County, Alabama, she was the youngest of ten children with the nickname of "Baby Sister". She was raised with strong family values and carried that strength, determination, and love of family throughout her entire life. 

At just 16 years old, in 1953, she married James R. Jean, beginning a marriage that lasted 25 years. Later in life, she married Benjamin Shelton in December of 1984, and they shared nearly 50 years together. 

In 1954, she made Indiana her home and eventually settled in Veedersburg, where she built a life centered around people she loved most. Family was never simply important to her, it was at the heart of everything she did. She especially enjoyed the company of her husband Ben, and living a simple life together side by side. 

She was a devoted stay-at home mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for others. She helped raise her grandchildren and welcomed her children's spouses into her home and heart, as family. Her home was a place where people could come, be cared for, and they were loved. 

She was a mother to eight living children, and she was blessed with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who became an important part of her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Lena Cagle, Father, Obbito Cagle, Former Husband, James R. Jean, Benjamins Shelton, as well as her daughter, Donna Jean. As well as, grandchildren Twylia Kay Hollis, Raymond Cates, Michelle Jean, Vincent Hahn, and Cody Hehmann.

Those remembering her legacy are Deborah Cates (Steve), James Jean (Robin), Kenny Jean (Maria), Denise Jean (Emily), Diana Scherer (Jim), Mark Jean, Dixie Shelton, and Brent Shelton. She loved and nurtured 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 43 great-great-grandchildren. 

Though her chair may now be empty and her laughter may be missed, the love she gave will continue to live on in every generation she helped raise. She was surrounded by family in her final moments as she was greeted by angels at the gates of Heaven. She is now reunited with her parents, siblings, husband, and grandkids in the loving arms of Jesus. 

Rest peacefully Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great-Great-Grandma. You will be loved and remembered always. 

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport. Burial will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery, Veedersburg, Indiana. Friends and family may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service.
