Charles William “Bill” Shoaf, 61, of Boswell, Indiana, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Lafayette, Indiana at IU Arnett Hospital.
Born on February 25, 1964, in Danville, Illinois, Bill was the son of Edward Lee Shoaf and Margaret Kay Shoaf of Veedersburg, Indiana. He grew up with a passion for cars and music that would remain central throughout his life. Bill married the love of his life Carol Gandy on October 28, 1988.
A proud graduate of Fountain Central High School in 1982, Bill went on to complete his technical education at Lincoln Technical Institute in 1983. His strong work ethic and mechanical aptitude led him to a long-standing career at Lafayette Venetian Blinds, where he worked in maintenance for 25 years. Later, he brought his skills to C&D Technologies in Attica for two years before retiring.
Bill’s love for automobiles extended far beyond the workplace. A dedicated member of the Lafayette Miniature Car Club, he was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and creativity. His talent earned him recognition in Scale Auto Model Car magazine, where several of his award-winning builds were featured—an honor that reflected both his skill and his deep enthusiasm for the hobby.
He had a lifelong appreciation for muscle cars and drag racing and found joy in sharing these interests with others. Music also played a special role in Bill’s life; he especially loved 80s hair metal and cherished taking his son to concerts—a tradition that created lasting memories.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Shoaf; daughter Jessica Chapman (Mike); son Mitchell Shoaf (Regan); sister Gala Reed (Denny); Mother in Law Margie Gandy; and two granddaughters: Emma Chapman and Baby Shoaf expected in September.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Shoaf and Margaret Kay Shoaf and Father in Law Willie Gandy.
May the memory of Charles William “Bill” Shoaf bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
