Charles “Chuck/Popsi” Dean Frye, age 65 of Danville, IN passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on November 19th, 2025, at Hendricks Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born September 8th, 1960, in Danville, IL to Donald and Marie (Wills) Frye, Chuck was a long-time resident of Warren County before moving to Hendricks County in 2006. He graduated from Seeger High School in 1978. Prior to his back-related disability, he was an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at C&D Battery in Attica, IN.
Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents and father. He is survived by his mother Marie Frye of West Lebanon, IN. Brothers Steve (Deanna)Frye of Pekin, IL, David (Dawn)Frye of Otterbein, IN, Brad (Linda) Frye of Brownsburg, IN. Daughter Lacey (Derek) McMillan, Danville, IN, Son Dr Casey (Kat) Frye-Davies of Lawton, OK. Beloved grandsons Wyatt and Conrad McMillan of Danville, IN. A multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts, all whom he loved beyond measure. Chuck had a special relationship with all the kids. They all loved Uncle Chuck (Uncle Uncle Chuck to the greats) and he made it known he loved them. At family functions he was usually found playing with them on the floor. He is also survived by his fur babies and constant companions, his beloved dogs Scarlett, Sadie, Sylas, and Scout, and his rescue cat, Buddy.
Chuck’s roots of being raised on a farm lead to his ability to be the ultimate do-it yourselfer. He was known to have several simultaneous “projects” that “shouldn’t be too hard to handle.” If you couldn’t find him at home, most likely he was at his happy place, lost in Menards with a cart full of clearance items or a tool he found “handy” that had a great warranty. Although he kept himself busy, he never hesitated to help another in need. Chuck never met a stranger and had an incredible quality to always find the best in people. Chuck also loved his coffee (so much so it possibly ran through his veins), the St. Louis Cardninals, splitting wood, owner’s manuals, and cologne.
Chuck married the love of his life, Lisa (Graves) Frye on July 19, 1980. Together they made a beautiful life and two amazing children. Chuck was very involved in every aspect of their lives. He was incredibly proud of his kids. He loved coaching Casey’s youth baseball teams and being a Cub Scout leader. For Lacey, he loved watching her cheer and never missed an event. During Lacey’s college years he was the “sorority dad”. All the girls saved their projects for when Chuck came to visit. Unknown to him, they referred to him as “hot Chuck” much to Lacey’s dismay. He loved those visits and was kept very busy at each one.
He loved his kids, but his world changed in 2009 when he became his favorite title, “Popsi.” His world revolved around his grandsons Wyatt and Conrad. He was so much more than a Grandpa to them. Popsi was their…
Daycare provider: From babies to teenagers, he did it all. They may have had their first sips of coffee before the age of one, but it was mostly creamer anyway. The last few years, we weren’t sure who was babysitting who, but no one told him that.
Personal driver: Drives back and forth to school, sports practices, batting cages, the gas station, and Menards to name a few. He was always willing to drive them wherever they needed to go and stop for breakfast along the way if there was time.
Advice giver: How to improve their baseball swing, how to fix anything (as long as he had the owner’s manual), how to drive on ice, how to cut wood and build a fire. These are just a few of the many things that he taught them.
Biggest fan: It didn’t matter the sport, he would cheer for them, their teammates, and most times even the other team. “Good job both teams!” was his favorite thing to say once the teams lined up. He would usually be found standing close to the dugout giving out advice and fruit snacks. When he wasn’t feeling well enough to attend games, he would stream them from home and still have plenty of advice after, even coaching advice for Derek.
His family is comforted knowing that he is no longer in pain and is having coffee now with his best friend, his Dad even though we selfishly wanted more time with him and will feel the void forever.
Visitation will be held at Grady Funeral Home, Williamsport, Wednesday, November 26, 10am to noon, with memorial service to follow at noon. There will be time to share if you have something you would like to share about his life.
For his service Chuck would want you comfortable, so casual attire is fine, he would be wearing his best sweatpants and polo. He would say don’t waste your money on flowers and would love you to donate to your favorite charity in his honor. Suggested donations to Venture Church, Pittsboro, Taffy’s Touch senior dog rescue or any animal rescue
