Carlene Ann (Hunter) Watkins

Carlene Ann (Hunter) Watkins, age 80 of Attica, IN, passed away peacefully at home on July 23, 2021 surrounded by her family after a long battle with lung and heart disease. Carlene was born May 30, 1941 in Williamsport, IN. She was the daughter of Russell and Jessie (Powell) Hunter-Morris and step-father Delta (Shorty) Morris. Carlene was a 1959 Pine Village High School Graduate. She married Lewis (Squeak) Watkins on July 5, 1959 in Greenhill, IN and he preceded her in death. Carlene Worked at RMC in Attica following high school. She later went to work at Harrison Steel Casting Company in Attica from 1974 until her retirement in 1996. Carlene was a dedicated mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandma (Gangsta Granny). She had a sassy personality and always made the people around her laugh. She loved people and could talk for hours. Carlene was world-renowned for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion, and had a knack for telling it like it was. Her love for bingo, cards, and soap operas was unmatched. She always said “if you’re keeping score and don’t win, there is something wrong!” Whenever you were playing cards with her, you assumed that you were going to lose because she would always find a way to come out on top. Carlene started watching Lady Ramblers softball because her granddaughter played, but then fell in love with the game. She was an avid Rambler softball supporter, and hadn’t missed a season since. Surviving are, 1 daughter, Gayle Payne; 4 sons, Bryan Watkins, David (Pam) Watkins, Rusty Watkins, and Gary Watkins; 4 siblings, Jim (Kathy) Hunter, Richard (Debbi) Hunter, Sue (Kirk) Baker, and Vicki Morris; 7 grandchildren, Casandra, Michelle, Kimberly, David, Steven, Savanna, and Rebecca; 11 great-grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews; All who loved her dearly and will never forget her wit, charm, loyalty, and kindness for them. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Hunter and Delta & Jessie Morris; loving husband, Lewis; eldest sister, Francis; baby brother, Dennis; and niece, Lynn. Visitation will held at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Monday July 26, 2021 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be there in the chapel on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Benjamin Day officiating. Interment will follow at Davis Cemetery in Greenhill, IN.
