Thomas W. “Bill” Salts, age 88 of West Lebanon, IN died at 10:40 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Attica.
Bill was born in Steuben Township, Indiana on November 12, 1921. He was the son of Guy A. and Bertha A. (O’Conner) Salts. He married Mary Eleanor Cates in Williamsport, IN on January 3, 1942. She preceded him in death on June 10, 1982. He lived in the West Lebanon community most of his life.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Anzio Beach Head and was awarded 3 bronze stars. He was a member of the West Lebanon Christian Church, F & AM Lodge #352 West Lebanon, and life member of VFW Post #3318 Attica.
Surviving are, 2 sons, Thomas Lee and Terry William Salts, West Lebanon, IN; several nieces and nephews; in-laws, “DAV” and Martha Davin; and longtime World War II buddy, Bob Kessler. Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Salts, and a sister, Mary Townsend.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon. Services will be there on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Minister Bruce Thornsbrough officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
