Joanne A. (Burtis) Brenner

Joanne A. Burtis Brenner, 84, of Liberty Estates in Danville, IL formerly of West Lebanon passed away at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Provena United Samaritans Hospital of Danville. Born February 26, 1926 in Hoopeston, Illinois, Joanne was the daughter of Harry D. and Ina Chadwick Burtis. Joanne grew up in Hoopeston and graduated from John Greer High School in 1944. Her first employment was in the offices of the American Can Company in Hoopeston. On September 15, 1946 Joanne married John R. (Jack) Brenner in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Jack preceded her in death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bill Burtis. Surviving are her sister Clara Jean Browne of Champaign, Illinois, her son Joe Brenner of Attica, and her daughter Jackie Fehrenbach (Dan) of Terre Haute; six grandchildren: Heather Holder (Brian) of West Lafayette; Natalie Lind (Kristian) of New York City; Jessica Foster (David) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Emily Jones of Attica; Daniel Fehrenbach of Decatur, Illinois; Jennifer Taylor (Neil) of Attica; and five great-granddaughters: Halle, Bella, and Harlo Holder, Vada Foster, and Alta Lind. Joanne and Jack lived on farms in Benton and Warren Counties in Indiana with their children for more than forty years before retiring to Denvale West in Danville, Illinois. A fifty year member of Eastern Star, Joanne also worked as the Clerk for the Indiana State Highway in Fowler, as executive secretary for Palmer National Bank, and retired as a bookkeeper from the Citizens State Bank of Williamsport. She loved playing golf and bridge with friends at Hubbard Trail Country Club and traveling. Later, after losing her sight, she enjoyed attending the Danville Symphony Orchestra, country music, listening to books on tape, and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville and a past member of the Danville Garden Club and the Danville Country Club. Joanne was especially proud of and dear to her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Friday, July 16, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Katie Hopper officiating. Interment will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, Illinois. Memorial condolences may be to the First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Franklin, Danville, Illinois 61832.
