William "Bill" R. Abernathy

William R. “Bill” Abernathy, age 85 of Williamsport, died at 9:10 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Bill was born in Clinton, IN on June 9, 1924. He was the son of Claude and Katherine (James) Abernathy. He was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School. He previously lived in Clinton, IN and Boone County, IN before moving to Warren County in 1965. He married Marcella Arlene VanSant in Clinton, IN on December 8, 1946. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2003. Bill was a plant supervisor for Indiana Bell retiring in 1978. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Fountain Warren County Post #3318 Attica and American Legion Post #259 Williamsport. He was a 50 year member of the Jerusalem #99 F & AM, Clinton, IN. He was an avid Cubs fan. Surviving are, 2 children, Monty Abernathy (wife: Patty) of Attica, IN and Billie Mitton (husband: Dave) of Williamsport, IN; 1 sister, Katherine Ward of West Palm Beach, FL; 1 brother-in-law, Don Dunn of West Palm Beach, FL; 4 granddaughters, Kelly Abernathy-Schneider (husband: John) of Fishers, IN, Lindsay Abernathy-Larson (husband: Joey) of Attica, IN, Jennifer Foster-Hicks (husband: Michael) of West Lebanon, and Paula Foster (companion: Lance Rasmussen); and 6 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tom Foster, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until the Masonic service at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
