Jean (Shatell) Cayton

Flora “Jean” (Shatell) Cayton, age 94 of Williamsport died at 2:17 am on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Jean was born on September 24, 1915 in Pence, IN. She was the daughter of Sandy W. and Bessie (Smith) Shatell. She was a 1933 graduate of West Lebanon High School. On September 19, 1936 she married Joe Cayton in Williamsport. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1972. She had been a Warren County resident all of her life and had been residing with her grandson, Von Hallett, and his family since October 2008. Jean attended the Pence United Methodist Church as a child. She sold Stanley Home Products for many years and had been a caregiver for area residents in her later years. She was a member of the West Lebanon OES #162, past president of the KMPS of the Williamsport Senior Center, and past member of the VFW Post #3318 Attica. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Surviving are, 2 children, Bill Cayton (wife: Gertrude) of Decatur, IL and Sandy Reynolds of Williamsport, IN; 1 brother, Charles Shatell of Kennewick, WA 1 sister-in-law, Lorene Shatell of West Lebanon, IN; 9 grandchildren, Traci Massar (husband: Ed) of Alma, MI, Troy Cayton (wife: Thresa) of Goodland, IN, Mark Cayton (wife: Lisa) of Springfield, MO, Tammy Pendleton (companion: Mike) of Rileysburg, IN, Kelly Nash (husband: Steve) of Danville, IL, Von Hallett, (wife: Sherry) of Williamsport, IN, and Gretchen King (husband: Troy) of West Lebanon, IN, Jerry Marshall (wife: Corina) and Jim Marshall (wife: Rita) both of Cambridge City, IN; 30 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, brother, Robert Shatell, daughter, Dorethea Bird, son-in-laws, Ronald Hallett and Walter Reynolds, sister-in-law, Lucille Shatell, and grandson, William J. Cayton, Jr, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon on Saturday, October 10, 2009 from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. There will be an OES service at 12:45 pm. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Williamsport Senior Center.
