Louis R. "Newt" Lewis

Louis R. “Newt” Lewis, age 92 of Locust Grove, IN died at 4:58 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Clarian Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN where he had been a patient the past 4 days. Louis was born on October 5, 1916 on the Lewis Family Farm in Warren County, IN. He was the son of Walter and Mae (Padgett) Lewis. He was a Warren County resident all of his life. He went to school in Tab, IN and graduated from Boswell High School. On September 5, 1959 he married Tunie Oliver in Winnipeg, Canada. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2007. Louis was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the Guadalcanal Campaign. He worked as a welder for Allis-Chalmers Corp. for a short time after the war. He was a crop and cattle farmer living on the Lewis Farm until his death. He raised and sold registered Charolais, Simmental and Limousin bulls until 1985. Louis was a member of the Locust Grove United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #259 in Williamsport. He loved music and playing his guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed watching polka shows. Louis was preceded in death by 1 son, Robert R. Lewis. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Thursday July 9, 2009 from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Locust Grove Cemetery Association or the American Legion Post #259 of Williamsport.
