Gertrude "Trudy" Susanna (McCord) Hamilton

Gertrude “Trudy” Susanna (McCord) Hamilton, age 107 of Williamsport, IN passed this life into the next on Sunday, December 27, 2015 surrounded by her family at the Williamsport Health and Nursing Center. Trudy was born in East Lynn, IL on July 6, 1908 to Frank and Mabel (Luxton) McCord. She graduated from East Lynn High School and then attended Illinois Wesleyan. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Riley, IL and then at East Lynn Grade School. She married Claude Hamilton in 1933 and twin daughters were born in 1934. She lived all her married life in rural Williamsport where she and her husband farmed. She was a member of Pence Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School Class, played the piano, was the Sunday School treasurer, and belonged to WSCS. Trudy was a member of Eastern Star, Jordan Matrons Home Ec Club, and Pleasant View Ladies Aid. She moved to Hedrick, IN in 1972 after the death of her husband. She befriended all the children of the town and was ready to listen to their stories. She was always ready to serve them ice cream, cookies, or Pepsi. Trudy was a fabulous cook known for her noodles, poor man’s swiss steak, popcorn balls, and chop suey (which she served her family every Christmas)! She also made her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren cherished quilts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, a daughter, Janet Reynolds, sons-in-law, Walter Reynolds and Tom Silver, and grandson, John Silver. Trudy is survived by her daughter, Joyce Silver, 3 granddaughters, JoEllen Hurt, LeAnn (Perry) Conrad, and Lori (Jeff) Young, 9 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more babies to be born in 2016, and many nieces and nephews and cousins whom she kept in touch with and who loved her very much. Her grandchildren loved to ride their bikes to her house where she entertained them by telling them stories of her childhood or making them on-top-of-the-stove cookies. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles B. Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Jordan Cemetery in Pence, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Jordan Cemetery.
