Helen V. (Dotson) Dawson, age 85 of Williamsport, IN died at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Williamsport Nursing and Rehab where she had been a resident the past 5 months.
Helen was born in Danville, IL on May 3, 1930. She was the daughter of Claude W. and Pauline (Hobson) Dotson. She lived in Fountain County till the age of 5 years when she moved to Warren County where she resided till her death. She was a 1948 graduate of West Lebanon High School. Helen married Thomas K. Dawson on September 24, 1948 in Williamsport, IN. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1989.
Helen was a homemaker. She worked at the Seeger High School cafeteria for 10 years and also sold Avon. In 1983 she and her husband, Tom, traveled to Africa. She was a member of the Marshfield Presbyterian Church and had recently attended Hickman Heights Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling and shopping and liked to square dance. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a past member of the West Lebanon past and future committee.
Surviving are, 3 children, Robert “Bob” Dawson (Melvia) and Ellen Peterson (John) both of Williamsport, IN and Diana Brier (John) of rural Attica, IN; 8 grandchildren, Valeri Dawson, Robert R. Dawson, Amy Surtees (Anthony), Kristin Phillips (Greg), Kevin Peterson (Jessica), Sean Brier, Heather Roudebush (Dan), and Mark Brier; and 16 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister, Janice Shaffer, and twin great-grandchildren, Miranda and Elijah Dawson.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Dan Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Warren County Community Foundation or the Honor Flight.
