Joyce Ann (Weidenhammer) VanDame

Joyce Ann (Weidenhammer) VanDame, age 80 of Williamsport, IN died at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at her residence. Joyce was born, March 5, 1935, and raised on Ross Avenue in Williamsport, IN. She was the daughter of John and Elsie (Bodine) Weidenhammer. She spent her childhood with her friends trying their best to stay out of too much trouble. She said “we failed more often than not.” She enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and the many mishaps that turned into funny memories and enjoyed sharing those memories with her many friends and grandchildren. She was a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School and a lifelong resident of Warren County. Joyce met the love of her life in 1956. She married Charles Lee “Bud” VanDame on July 26, 1957 in Williamsport, IN and he preceded her in death on November 14, 1990. They spent their lives raising Nyla, spending time with family and friends. They always had a house full. This held true right up to the end. Joyce was a homemaker. She worked at Radio Material in Attica, IN and part time at the Warren County Assessor Office. She was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church. She was the service chairman of the American Cancer Society in Warren County and won the Jane Award for home women’s demonstration. She enjoyed working with cancer patients. Joyce enjoyed cooking, telling a good joke, playing cards (AKA taking all our money), and loving her family. Joyce never met a stranger. She truly loved life. Granny will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all the grandchildren she picked up along the way. Surviving are, 1 daughter, Nyla M. Jordan of Williamsmport, IN; 4 grandchildren, Chuck (Sarah), Tony (Kelly), John, and Beth (Troy); 12 great-grandchildren, Zan, Eesha, Dylan, Dalton, Skyler, Kobee, Reece, Tatum, Gavin, Abby, Tonya and Ashley; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Aydin and Gabe. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and husband. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Joyce’s home, 1233 S Williamsport Rd., Williamsport, IN on Thursday, September 10, 2015 with a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Jordan officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later time at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.
