Agnes L. (Neal) Mathis, age 97 of Pine Village, died at 6:10 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette, IN where she had resided since November 2014
Agnes was born on February 26, 1918 in Clinton, IN. She was the daughter of Hodson and Armenta (Kiger) Neal. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1936 and attended Business College in Terre Haute, IN. She also lived in Williamsport and Bicknell before making her home in Pine Village. She married Lewis "Winnie" Mathis on August 14, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 5, 2006.
Agnes was a stay at home mom and later worked for Purdue University in the housekeeping department. She was a member of the Pine Village Christian Church where she served on the activities committee. She was a member of the OES Chapter West Lebanon. She enjoyed her flowers and cat, “bear”, and cooking for her family.
Surviving are, 3 daughters, Anna M. Comer (Charles “Sonny”) of Pine Village, IN, Joyce “Joy” E. Hemersbach (Frank “Jim”) of Burlington, IN, and Linda L. Hudson of rural Pine Village, IN; 1 son, Charles “Chuck” Mathis (Halina) of Otterbein, IN; 12 grandchildren, Frank Joseph Hemersbach (Gina), Jeffrey L. Hemersbach (Kim), Jason S. Hemersbach (Jodie), Kristi Gardener (companion: Steve), Traci Narducci (David “Dave”), Denny Mathis (Michelle), John D. Comer (Jill), Cynthia “Cindy” Summers (Mike), Catherine “Cathy” L. Noerenberg (Jeffery “Jeff”), Wendi A. Jordan, Clint Hudson (companion: Sheri), and Sherry Hardebeck (Ryan); 24 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Rena Lester of Denver, CO. Agnes was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers, 1 sister, Mary McClintock, 2 step-brothers, 1 step-sister, and 1 son-in-law, Mike Hudson.
Visitation will be at Friday, August 7, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the Pine Village Christian Church with services there on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Stamm officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Pine Village Christian Church.
