Roy Lee Vail, age 82 of Williamsport, IN died at 9:49 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born on October 6, 1932 in Williamsport, IN. He was the son of George and Lettie (High) Vail. He attended Williamsport schools. He was a life long resident of Warren County all of his life living in Pine Village and Williamsport. On July 3, 1954 he married Bonnie Christine Massengill in Otterbein, IN. Roy served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the Armed Infantry Batallion. He was a member of the Old Fashioned Baptist Church in Independence. He will be remembered for saving his neighbor, infant Steve Price from a farmhouse fire and their family dog. He had farmed and worked at the Warren County Courthouse in maintenance. He then worked for Brown Rubber in Lafayette, Kroger in Attica and Lafayette where he retired. He then worked at Purdue University where he retired in 1998. He was also self-employed for 50 years in refrigeration and air conditioning. Surviving with his wife, Bonnie, are, 2 children, Roger Vail (wife: Sharon) of Attica, IN and Wilma J. Jernagan (husband: Jimmy) of Williamsport, IN; 3 grandchildren, Amber Lynn Vail (husband: Will Smith), Breanna Rae Vail, Addalee Vail Jernagan; and 4 great-grandchildren, Anya Smith, Quinten Smith, Cole Smith, Rylan Fletcher. Roy was preceded in death by son, Ronald Lee Vail, brothers, Bob Vail and Richard Vail, sisters, Helen Pollom Smith and Mary Doris Cotton, nephew, Bryan Vail, and great-grandson, Vincent Smith. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport Washington Township Public Library for the children’s department.
