Darlene Saffell Whistler

Darlene Saffell Whistler, age 70 of Pine Village, IN died at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at her home. Darlene was born November 8, 1943. She was the daughter of Ivil and Edna (Bradbury) Saffell.  She was a graduate of Pine Village High School.  On June 29, 1968 she married Lewis “Mike” Whistler in Pine Village. The Whistler’s have resided near Pine Village most of their lives. Darlene worked at Purdue University from where she retired in 1995.  Darlene also worked at Production Credit Association in Fowler.  She was a member of the Christian Science Church. Crocheting, sewing, and baking were some of her main interests. Surviving are her loving husband, Lewis “Mike” Whister; son, Bryan (Amy) Whistler and grandson, Matthew McClellan of Salem, IN; brother-in-law, James McIntosh of West Lebanon, IN; brother-in-law, Larry “Butch” (Kate) Whistler of Plattsmouth, NE; sister-in-law, Pam Saffell of Pine Village, IN; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Saffell of Pine Village, IN. A celebration of life service will be held at the Judyville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Guardian Angels Hospice Foundation, 412 W Sycamore, Kokomo, IN  46902.
