Lorna R. (Vanston) Phillips

Lorna R. (Vanston) Phillips, age 70 of West Lebanon, IN, formerly of Baytown, TX, died at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St Elizabeth Central in Lafayette, IN. Lorna was born on August 4, 1942 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of Robert and Ruby (Lawrence) Vanston. She grew up in Houston, TX and moved to Warren County. She returned to Baytown, TX before moving back to West Lebanon in September 2012. She was a1960 graduate. She later graduated from a secretarial school. On August 24, 1961 she married Harold E. Maggard. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1980. She then married Mark O. Phillips on August 15, 1981. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2011. Lorna was a medical secretary for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX retiring in 2006. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, reading, and especially enjoyed her jewelry. Her grandchildren were her life. Surviving, father, Robert Vanston of Hayward, CA; daughter, Ginger Manis (spouse: Trent Gabbard) of West Lebanon, IN; 2 sisters, Mary Amerson (spouse: Gary) of Spring, TX and Valerie Garcia of Hayward, CA; former brother-in-law, Joe Garcia of CA whom she still treated as family; 2 grandchildren, Michelle R. Manis (spouse: Cory Brundige) and Nathaniel B. Manis both of West Lebanon; and 2 great-grandchildren, Graci L. Brundige and Kloey L. Ransom. Lorna was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Vanston. There will be a memorial service in Houston, TX at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
