Luther Smith

Luther Smith, age 81 of Attica, IN went home to Jesus at 4:40 A.M. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Luther was born on January 26, 1927 in Alva, Harlan County, KY. He was the son of the late George L. and Charity (Daniels) Smith. He lived in Smith, KY before moving to Attica in 1965. Luther was a coal miner and general store owner before retiring from Harrison Steel Casting Co. in Attica, IN retiring in 1989. What Luther enjoyed most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid coon hunter and enjoyed training hunting dogs and collected and traded guns and knifes. He attended the Church of God in Veedersburg prior to his illnesses. Surviving are, 1 son, Roger L. Smith, Sr. (wife: Martha Sue) of West Lebanon 4 daughters, Sis Eldridge (husband: Tom) of Cawood, KY; Arnetta Smith (partner: Patricia Schuessler) of Williamsport; Veronica Smith Bragg (husband: Jeff) and Vivian L. Smith both of Danville, IL Step-daughter, Teresa Truelove (husband: Keith) Brother, Charles T. Smith (wife: Mary) of Indianapolis, IN 6 grandchildren, Roger L. Smith, Jr. (wife: Kelly) of West Lebanon, Keith F. Smith (wife: Jackie) of Evansville, Kassie R. Smith of West Lebanon, Rebekah and Rachel Eldridge of Lexington, KY, Trent N. Smith of Danville, IL 3 great-grandchildren, Sydney, Jay and Owen Smith Luther was also blessed by special neighbors, Jerry and Vickie Koekenberg and two little girls who knew him as “Papaw Luther”, Emma and Macie. Luther was preceded in death by 1 sister, Betty Smith Daniels, and 4 brothers, Bynum, Robert, Stacey and Drexel Smith, and a great-granddaughter, Emmalee N. Smith. Friends may call at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Sunday, March 2, from 1:00 P.M. EST until service time of 3:00 P.M. EST. The Rev. Harvey L. Lange will be officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
