Ralph E. Byers, age 87 of Williamsport, IN died at 7:00 a.m. CST at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL. Ralph was born in Marshfield, IN on January 29, 1925. He was the son of Clair and Maggie (Ogle) Byers. He was a Warren County resident most of his life. He attended Marshfield and West Lebanon schools. He married Martha Murphy on November 11, 1943 in Williamsport. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2009. Ralph served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater at Okinawa as a medic. He worked as a brake man for New York Central, was a truck driver, worked in maintenance at Lakeview and Williamsport Hospitals, and retired from the Warren County Highway Department. Ralph was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3318 Attica. He was a train enthusiast and enjoyed traveling. Surviving are, 3 children, Connie Mikels (husband: Dick) of Covington, IN, Raymond Byers (wife: Carol) of West Lafayette, IN and Bonnie Myers (husband: Gary) of Williamsport; companion, Jane Morlan of Marshfield, IN; 11 granddaughters; 28 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Paul L. Byers. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at Williamsport United Methodist Church on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles B. Anderson and Rev. Cathy McCoy officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport United Methodist Church Food Pantry or the American Cancer Society.
