Mary Alice Altman

Mary Alice (McCormick) Altman, age 81 of Ambia, IN died at 10:53 P.M. on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at her residence. Mary was born in Monon, IN on September 16, 1926. She was the daughter of Martin “Ed” and Emma (Zable) McCormick. She was raised in Monon, moving to the Wolcott area after marriage, living in the Ambia area since 1950. She was a 1945 graduate of Monon High School. On April 30, 1949 she married Wilmer J. Altman in Reynolds, IN. He survives. Mary worked at Pillsbury, formerly Joan of Arc, in Hoopeston, IL, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston, IL, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #259 in Williamsport, and Prairie Lamp Lighters Home Extension Club. Mary was a former Prairie Township 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking and won several baking awards. She loved to do cake decorating and enjoyed every opportunity she had to do it. She enjoyed photography. She especially enjoyed taking care of her family and friends and putting their needs before her own. She enjoyed Purdue women’s basketball, gardening and flowers. Mary enjoyed helping the 4-H children and she never met a stranger. Surviving with her husband are, 4 children, Carol Freeman (Steve) of Davie, FL, John Altman (Diane) of Williamsport, Eleanor Anderson (Jim) of State Line, IN, and Harold Altman (Vhie) of Oxnard, CA; 5 brothers and 4 sisters, Lucille (Ray) Miller of Lacrosse, IN, Patricia (Herb) McKay of Obetz, OH, Joe McCormick of Lacrosse, IN, Robert McCormick (Marilyn) of Winimac, IN, Glen McCormick (Chris) of South Chicago Heights, IL, Charolette (Norm) Winter of Marquette, MI, Donna (Ed) Redwine of Augusta, Kansas, Carl (Phyllis) McCormick of Homer Glen, IL, and Kenny (Barbara) McCormick of Francesville, IN; 8 grandchildren, Damion (Dawn) Freeman of FL, Leslie Anderson of Indianapolis, A.J. Anderson (Marisa) of Tilton, IL, Aaron Altman of Williamsport, Megan (Mike) Hill of Lafayette, IN, Kelsey Altman of Williamsport, Nathan Altman of Oxnard, CA and Crystal Altman of Oxnard, CA; 3 great-grandchildren, Skylar Hill, Jamie and Jason Zrud; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by 1 brother, Tom McCormick, 1 sister, Frances McCormick, and sister-in-law, Marge McCormick. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Saturday, November 24, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. EST. Services will be there in the chapel on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. EST with Father Bo Schmitt officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Reynolds, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Williamsport-Washington Township Public Library.
