Walter A. Taflinger

Walter A. Taflinger, age 70 of West Lebanon, died at his residence at 10:21 a.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012. Walter was born near West Lebanon, IN on December 5, 1941. He was the son of George A. and Irma V. (Wurtsbaugh) Taflinger. He attended Williamsport High School and later received his GED and then an Associates degree in electronics from Ivy Tech. He worked in Security for General Foods, SIA, Flex-n-Gate, and Wal-Mart in Danville, IL. Walter served in the US Army for 20 years, serving in Germany and during the Vietnam Era as a staff sergeant. He received numerous awards and medals including a purple heart and bronze star. He was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church, American Legion Post #777 Indianapolis, Disabled American Veterans, American Philatelic Society, and American Numismatic Association. Surviving are, 1 son, George A. Taflinger, II of California; 2 sisters, Shirley Story of Attica, IN, and Ruth Taflinger of Gatesville, TX; and special nieces and nephews, 2 of which were his caregivers, Becky Larson of Williamsport, IN and Steven Butler of Mellott, IN. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Clara Miles and Lois Millburg. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or Serenity Hospice.
