S. Wayne Hillyer

S. Wayne Hillyer, age 88 of Williamsport, died at 8:04 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, IN. Wayne was born on February 16, 1924 in Williamsport, IN. He was the son of Kenneth and Fairy (Brown) Hillyer. He was a 1941 graduate of Williamsport High School. He attended Central Normal College in Danville, IN for 1 year. He married Norma D. Clawson on January 1, 1945 in Williamsport, IN and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1983. He later married Clara Lee Clark in Catlin, IL on April 24, 1984. She survives. Wayne was the past postmaster in Williamsport. He was a member of the Catlin Church of Christ in Catlin, IL, a 60 year member and past master of the F & AM Pine Village Lodge # 315, the Scottish Rite Indianapolis Valley, and NARFE (National Affiliation of Retired Federal Employees. He was a past Scout Master and 4-H Club Leader. He enjoyed raising horses, including Shetland Ponies, Walking Horses and Quarter Horses. Surviving with his wife, Clara, are, 1 daughter, Andrea Kay Hammersley (husband: Richard) of Peru, IN; 1 son, Randall Wayne Hillyer (wife: Cathy) of Lafayette, IN; 1 stepson, Jim Lee (wife: Sherry) of Tulsa, OK; 2 sisters, Rosemary Thomas (husband: the late Leroy) of Lafayette, IN and Carla Bever of Monticello, IN; 4 grandchildren, Tony Hillyer of Lafayette, Jason Hammersley of Duluth, GA, Brad Hammersley of Peru, and Richie Lee of Tulsa, OK; 8 great-grandchildren, Kaleb Hammersley, Blake Hillyer, Rachel Hammersley, Lucas Hammersley, Destiny Ancil, Ashley Ancil, Brandy Smith and Brooke Smith; and 1 great-great-grandson, Payton Smith. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. Services will be there on the chapel on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Darren Johnson and Brother Steve Padgett officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Community Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
