Verlon A. Cross, age 69 of West Lebanon, died at 7:36 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Verlon was the son of Freddy and Lucy Pendell. He was born October 25, 1942 in Soddy-Daisy, TN. He married Vera Cade and she survives. Verlon owned and operated Cross Upholstery for 30 years before retiring due to his health. He was also a pastor in the Nazarene Church during that time. He called many churches his home but attended the Good Neighbor Coffee House regularly until his Lou Gehrig’s disease forced him to go into the nursing home. He loved tinkering with cars and collecting lawn statues and flowers for his yard. Verlon was a big fan of country music, especially Johnny Cash and Randy Travis. He had a great love for all animals. Surviving with his wife Vera, are, 6 children, Daniel Cross of Lafayette; Nancy (Robert) Hislope of St. Louis, IL; Bill (Lisa) Cross of Lafayette; Kathy (Mark) Johnson of Macquire Air Force Base, NJ; Vera (Chris) Boling of Williamsport; and Vickie (Bill) Howey of Odell; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Verlon was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until the celebration of Verlon’s life at 2:00 p.m. at the Williamsport United Methodist Church with Rev. Cathy McCoy and Rev. Steve Padgett officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
